Abstract
In the article the concepts of “socialism” and “capitalism” are considered as myths, symbols, formed partly in the Soviet period and partly in post-Soviet period. These mythological interpretations are strenuously promoted in mass media and contribute to the development in mass consciousness of Russian society distorted picture of the world. As a result, an individual can not determine in what kind of society he lives today, what are its aims and prospects.
